The company GDELS-SBS has been awarded by the Army with a contract of 30 million for themodernization of the 155/52 howitzers of Field artillery (SIAC) and Costa (V07) and the Self-propelled M-109-A5 of 155/39
Within this modernization project, one of the most important items corresponds to the modernization of the Inertial System of Positioning, Navigation and Aiming (SIPNAP) of the pieces, for which the Army Logistic Support Command (MALE) has selected the GEONYX Inertial Navigation System (with gyroscopic technology of last generation HRG) for the replacement of the obsolete inertial navigators KEARFOTT, considering the proposal of Safran E&D and Europavia as the one with the greatest technical solvency among those presented.
The initial scope of this modernization of artillery pieces will be 100 howitzers, which can be expanded throughout the project that will last until December 2026. With this project, the Spanish Army will unify the pointing technology of its 155mm howitzers with that of Expal’s 81mm EIMOS boarded mortars, which are already operational in our Armed Forces, given that these mortars also use GEONYX as an inertial navigation and aiming system.
