The Ministry of Defense has closed with the Swiss company Pilatus Aircraft the purchase of a second batch of 16 PC-21 aircraft for the Air and Space Force. The contract, valued at around €240 million, includes the batch of aircraft, simulators, teaching equipment and a logistics package.

This system will replace the training that was carried out in the elementary phase with the Pillán aircraft. This way, from the 2023/2024 academic year, future Air and Space Army pilots will take two courses, elementary and basic, in a single aircraft, the PC-21. This will allow, among other advantages, to save costs in maintenance or in the supply of spare parts.

With this acquisition, which extends the one signed in 2020 (24 trainers, simulators and teaching equipment), the Spanish Air and Space Force becomes the largest PC-21 operator in Europe with 40 aircraft when deliveries are completed.

Europavia is the consultant of Pilatus aircraft in Spain since 2010.
